6 March 2020 Kathryn’s Video on STEAM with Kathy Brodie

Kathy Brodie’s website features her interview with Kathryn’s on STEAM – Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths. Kathy said,

“I’m delighted to have Kathryn Solly join us on Early Years TV. Kathryn has a science background, as well as being an Early Years expert, so is ideal for this week’s show.”

In this interview, Kathryn explains how important scientific language is, but how it must be relevant (and correct) as well as the types of resources that are useful – and which you may already have in your setting, such as homemade musical instruments or squirty paint.

She also explains the ‘liquid magic’ of practitioners and educators learning alongside the children as co-constructors of knowledge, especially with things such as magnets and circuits.

“I don’t often get time to watch all the amazing speakers which you find for us, but decided I needed to watch this STEAM focussed topic

Absolutely brilliant. Having a ‘previous life’ working within engineering this really appealed. Lots of notes are going to be shared with the team. “
